Do you dread writing your inspection reports? Are your evenings and family time held hostage by the need to complete reports? I’ve been there and can admit that the stress of report writing nearly broke me early in my career as a home inspector. I can remember days where I spent 3 or more hours writing inspection reports after I got home every night... five or six days a week. My health, mental state, and marriage suffered. Something had to change, or I was going to quit inspecting. Early in 2016 I opened a blank word document and started to type what is toady the INSPECTA Onsite Reporting System. My goal was simple, to create a narrative library and an accompanying template that would allow me to complete reports onsite using long form narratives that would not detract from the quality of the inspection report. It has been a journey, but today I complete 95% of my reports onsite and those not completed onsite need only minimal work to complete. As I reach the end of my inspection career, I want to leave my industry better than I found it. No inspector should be forced to create a template from scratch. We as an industry have too much learned knowledge and experience not to share.
