Laundry Appliances and Connections

Dryer Vent Inspection Limitation

Although the dryer vent was examined visually, a visual examination will not detect the presence of lint accumulated inside the vent. Lint accumulation within the dryer vent is a common cause of household fires. The Inspector recommends that you have the dryer vent cleaned both at the time of purchase and then annually.

Dryer Vent Tube Missing

Upon inspection of the laundry room, it was noted that the dryer exterior vent tube was missing. It is recommended that a qualified contractor make the necessary repairs/installation.

Dryer Vent Tube Too Short

Upon inspection of the laundry room dryer vent connection, it was noted that the portion of the dryer vent tube extending into the room from the wall was too short to allow connection of the flexible dryer vent hose. It is recommended that a qualified contractor make the necessary repairs/replacement.

Dryer Vent Disconnected in Crawlspace

During the inspection of the crawlspace, it was noted that the dryer vent discharge duct was disconnected and leaking into the crawlspace. It is recommended that a qualified contractor make the necessary repairs/replacement of the dryer vent discharge duct.

Dryer Vent Disconnected in Attic

During the inspection of the attic, it was noted that the dryer vent discharge duct was disconnected and leaking into the attic. It is recommended that a qualified contractor make the necessary repairs/replacement of the dryer vent discharge duct.

Dryer Vent – Flex Pipe Not Recommended

The dryer exhaust vent duct was constructed of flexible pipe. This style of ducting is not intended to be used on dryer vents. Restrictions within the flex pipe and the lack of a smooth inner wall surface can cause dryer lint to accumulate and clog the flex pipe. Lint build-up within the dryer vent is highly flammable and is a common cause of house fires. It is recommended that the flex pipe be removed and replaced with an appropriate ductwork material approved for dryer venting.

Dryer Vent – Exterior Vent Termination Clogged with Lint

The exterior dryer vent termination was partially clogged with lint. It is recommended that the dryer vent be immediately cleaned by a qualified contractor. Lint build-up within the dryer vent discharge duct is highly flammable and is a common cause of house fires.

Dryer Vent – Vent Cover Louvers Stuck Open

The exterior dryer vent cover/baffle was partially inoperative and it appeared the louvers were stuck open. (Location detailed in report photos) It is recommended that a qualified contractor make the necessary repairs/replacement.

Dryer Vent – Screened Exterior Vent Termination

The exterior dryer vent termination had a screened style vent termination. This style of vent termination is not intended to be used on dryer vent ducting. The screen can cause dryer lint to accumulate and clog the screen. Lint build-up within the dryer vent is highly flammable and is a common cause of house fires. It is recommended that the vent termination be removed and replaced by louvered or flapper style vent termination that is designed and approved for dryers.

Dryer Vent – Vent Pipe Damaged

The dryer vent pipe at the indicated location was damaged. It is recommended that the vent pipe be repaired or replaced as needed by a qualified contractor.

Dryer Vent – Exterior Vent Termination/Baffle Damaged

The exterior dryer vent termination/baffle was damaged. It is recommended that the baffle be repaired or replaced as needed by a qualified contractor.

Dryer Vent – Exterior Vent Termination/Baffle Painted Shut

The exterior dryer vent termination/baffle was painted shut and was NOT operational. It is recommended that the baffle be repaired or replaced as needed by a qualified contractor.
